Art Print Notes:

My favorite desert view of Egypt will always be the one in this print from near Aswan. I will simply never forget our boat on the Nile coming around a corner and seeing these massive Sahara sand dunes rising above the Nile. They just seemed impossibly huge. Look how they dwarf the sailboats on the banks of the Nile!

Those Sahara sand dunes almost looked like hills of gold in the late afternoon sunlight. It’s a landscape that’s truly spectacular. Even now when I look at this print, I feel as if I’m looking at an artwork that was the product of someone’s imagination rather than reality. But if you’ve been to Egypt or even seen it on TV, you know that’s Egypt. It’s a land of unimaginable natural beauty.

I will always have a soft spot for this Sahara sand dunes print. Not just for the immense beauty of that landscape or the sheer good fortune of arriving that afternoon with such fantastic light. This one holds a special place for me as it was the first of my Egyptian prints to find an audience. Knowing others love this Sahara print as much as I do is truly a pleasure.

I believe it was also on that boat that I learned that Sahara is a corruption of the Arabic word for desert. So when we say Sahara desert, we’re calling it the desert desert. I thought that was a cute bit of trivia, and it has clearly stuck with me for years since that beautiful afternoon on the Nile.

Have you seen the same massive Sahara sand dunes rising over the river Nile? Was it as golden in your memories as in this print? Or perhaps you’ve never been but this beautiful landscape calls to you just the same? I know that more than a few of the past patrons of this print have told me they’ve never been but loved the print just the same. What team are you on? I hope you might take a few moments to share what speaks to you most about this Sahara print?

Wonder what past print buyers think?
