Description
The first time I laid eyes on the historic Four Courts building in Dublin, Ireland, I was quite taken by the style of the neoclassical architecture. There's something so substantial about the looming building and that massive dome over the center. I love grand architecture, don't you?
It was not until I got home that I read up on the history of the building, but it hardly surprised me. It follows a template of much of the governmental buildings in Dublin. It was built at the end of the 18th century when Ireland was part of the United Kingdom. And it was damaged by bombing while the Irish sought independence in the 20th century.
And like many of the other buildings damaged, it was rebuilt true to its original style. In the case of the Four Courts, though, the interior was renovated for modern times losing much of the original opulence. But the outside, as you can see, is full of the Georgian Neoclassical charm for which Dublin is so well known.
