Description
If I had been in Paris longer than a handful of nights, I'm sure I would have gone further afield and taken in even more of the historic and beautiful architecture that makes up this historic French city. Still, I'm quite happy with the opportunity I had to really concentrate on some of the highlights like Notre Dame, the famous French Gothic church. And even if I went back tomorrow, I have no doubt you'd find me once more taking in the sights around Notre Dame de Paris.
This medieval church in the heart of Paris has survived centuries, although it was very nearly lost after damages during the French Revolution. The public was famously called to arms to save it through the writing of the Hunchback of Notre Dame by Victor Hugo in 1831.
It was after the book was published that the church was restored to its medieval grandeur. Ah, the power of the arts, a writer moved the French people to save a piece of their heritage!
Note: Notre Dame de Paris is a UNESCO designated World Heritage Site.
