Description
On my first day in Ireland, I spent the afternoon wandering aimlessly. I was only staying in Dublin one night before a quick bus tour, so it seemed pointless to really get my bearings. And somehow, I stumbled across Trinity College. It was hardly the last time that I wandered around the campus soaking in the atmosphere, but it was the single best day I saw there as far as that rich golden light you see here was concerned!
I would love to revisit Trinity College during the summer one day as much of the campus with its close buildings was in shadows with the low angle of the winter sun. Even still, here in the middle of old campus, on that first day, the Campanille (or bell tower) was really bathed in light without all the dark shadows.
I found out later that the Campanille is truly iconic. It's often used to represent the college it's such a campus landmark, and Parliament Square behind it is equally noteworthy and recognizable to anyone who has wandered through the main gate as I did that day. And special, I suspect, to those who came and spent their time as students on this venerable campus!
