Description
My last trip to England was in the late summer bordering on Fall. The weather was somewhat predictable most of my trip. I don't know if it was the norm per se, but it became expected for me to see overcast mornings but stunning afternoons. Still, my one and only morning in Bath was, well, wetter than any other. Yes, there is some irony in that.
Still, after a late breakfast, I was determined to see the sights if not photograph them. After all, it was still a new city for me and there are always museums for rainy days!
As luck would have it, shortly after breakfast, the skies began to clear and the rain stopped, and this was the still moody sight that greeted me as I approached the beautiful Abbey Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, better known as Bath Abbey.
Luckily for me, I consider wet paving stones to be about the most atmospheric foreground one could hope for inside a city. Combined with dramatic skies and soft lighting, well, I was quite happy with my wet morning in Bath anyway. And there's something quite right about all that drama mixed with quintessential perpendicular Gothic architecture, don't you think?
Of note to some art and architecture geeks, this is the side of Bath Abbey that is known for its Jacob's Ladder sculptures. You can see the angels climbing up the spires of the church if you take a closer look!
