Description
Landscapes like this one were exactly what I was searching for when I decided to spend a couple of nights in the wilds of Connemara near the village of Leenane in County Galway. I had gotten a small taste of this from my treks from city to city during my month in Ireland, but there's nothing that compares to putting those roads under your own feet when your aim is to capture landscapes with your camera.
The weather during my winter stay in Connemara was very unpredictable. One moment wind and rain was blowing in from the coast The next the sun was blazing through a hole in the clouds, and the next it was the tempest. It was wild but worthwhile. I enjoyed it both on a personal level and for the images I got of the Connemara countryside.
I've found that roads featured prominently in my images. Always roads leading to an unknown horizon. Now, I've always loved roads disappearing into the distance like the one you see here, but I think it was also a personal thing at the time. I had only just abandoned a good job at a company I had worked for a decade for an uncertain future embracing my loves of photography and travel. I think those feelings found their way into my work in Connemara. So many images of a wild and uncertain future but always I think with a hopeful feeling.
