I'll never forget the long climb to the top of St Peter's Basilica or the incredible view I had of the cityscape of the Vatican and Rome when I finally exited at the top.
It was from up above St Peter's that one could really appreciate the architecture of that 17th century square designed by Gian Lorenzo Bernini. The two large colonnades form a massive piazza, an open air church in essence. Not just a piazza but they are meant to symbolize the open arms of the mother church of Rome.
Black and white really emphasizes that architecture. The cityscape looking towards the Tiber is amazing on its own, but when the color is removed, you really see the plaza and the architecture surrounding it that much more clearly. What a beautiful piece of renaissance architecture!
