I’ve read that there are a number of Cotswolds villages like Lacock, in England. These were villages where the local industry died out and the village became stuck in time centuries ago. They could never afford to modernize – a good fortune for the tourist trade today.

I have never read the full details of Lacock’s past but if you’ve been, you know that it’s a village where you really do feel as if you’ve been transported into England’s past. It’s only the cars and such that really remind you that you’re in the 21st century. In fact, I’ve heard that a number of period British dramas are filmed in this village and even some segments of the popular Harry Potter films.

I had a brief but memorable time wandering those picturesque streets. My amble concluded at the entrance to the village church in Lacock. This is the Church of Saint Cyriac. There’s been a church here for much longer, but the Perpendicular Gothic village church we see today dates from the 15th century, a period when Lacock was flourishing from profits from the wool trade.

I was mesmerized when I saw this classic old village church. To me, the Church of St Cyriac was the very picture of a English village church. It has a very old world English charm surrounding it. Standing there before the church gate, you could easily forget this isn’t somehow a print from the 15th century rather than the 21st. It was also very plain why they like to film period films here!

I love the little details in this village church print. In particular, I like the sign telling visitors to come in next to the open gate. And then the repetition of the open church door at the end of the path. There’s a very welcoming and charming feel to this quaint English village scene. Don’t you agree?
