About This Image

My eyes are always drawn to anything old and weathered and all the better when it’s in the midst of the brilliant colors of Latin America. So, you can imagine I had my eyes on this rustic wood door on the streets of Granada, Nicaragua. I stayed quite near this grand old dame near the city center. And I passed this door often enough to catch a glimpse of the little old lady who lived within those weathered walls.

I don’t know about you, but one reason I’m drawn to weathered architecture is that it feels to me like it’s telling a story. Every crack in that rustic wood door is telling us about the years it has stood there. It’s talking about the people that have passed through it and by it. And, of course, in an historic city like Granada, it’s also telling us about the colonial heritage of Granada and the style of architecture that makes up the old city. No doubt the people who first called this little casa home have long since come and gone, but the weathered details speak of the pride they had in their home.

At the end of the day, for me, it’s the human story. Even when it’s expressed in the details we leave behind. I love the lines and the beautiful details. I love the deep red color of those old walls and the pitted plaster, but it all comes down to the story of the people. The people who made it, the people who it was made for and the line of people that came since then. Architecture is often the most concrete thing we leave behind.

What do you think of when you look at this rustic wood door from the streets of Granada? Does it remind you of your own trip to Nicaragua or another colonial city in Latin America? Does it make you think of the people who called it home? Or does the architecture stand on its own for you? I hope you might take a few moments to share what attracted you to this old door print?

How Can I Help?

At the end of the day, it’s important to me that you can put a face with the art you’re considering purchasing through my site. Aside from the print vendor who ultimately prints and ships your order, this is a one man show. The person who made the art is the same one who is typing this message and the one who will answer your questions if you drop me a note.

You are not a number and I care that you are happy with whatever art you might buy here. I’m here if you’d like to ask questions before or after purchasing. And I’m also happy to work with you where possible to customize the work you’re buying. Maybe you’d like a tweak to the shape of a print to fit in with your existing wall art. Or you’d like to add a little nod to someone special in it? Just ask! I also keep a running list of subjects I don’t currently have but people are seeking. So if you enjoy the style of my work but didn’t find quite what you were looking for, please do let me know.

I’ve been an artist for 15 years now and most of that time it’s been my full-time passion. And it matters to both the endorphins in my brain and the food I put on the table for me (and my cats) that you find the experience of purchasing the products offered here to be a pleasure.
