Description
Multiple nights while I was in Merida the first time, I had to see the "Traditional Yucatan Dancers." I put that in quotes because one might read it and expect to find something from Mayan times. In fact, though, this is post-colonial Maya dances complete with traditional garb. The women wear white dresses with bright floral embellishment and the guys wear white suits and panama hats! Quite a sight in the bright lights! And imagine the cleaning!
Although I saw it multiple nights, it was the first night where I spent the most time with my camera trying to capture the different routines, the costumes, etc. And it was also the biggest night, the night they dance on a closed off street adjacent to the main plaza. If you've spent time in Merida or perhaps elsewhere in the Yucatan, I bet you've had your chance to watch as well, eh? Definitely a highlight of my time in Merida was watching the dancers!
